SANCTUARY OF PEACE
Sanctuary of Saints-Mayeul-et-Odilon, a stopover on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, welcoming pilgrims and retreatants.
In 915, Aymard, ancestor of the House of Bourbon, gave Cluny his lands at Souvigny and the church dedicated to Saint Peter. Mayeul, abbot of Cluny, founded the monastery there in 954, and died in 994. He was succeeded by Odilon de Mercoeur, who died there in 1049. Both were canonized just a few years after their deaths, after numerous miracles. The sanctuary at Souvigny, also known as the sanctuary of Saints Mayeul and Odilon, is a stopover on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, and welcomes pilgrims and retreatants.
