MASSIF DES BAUGES REGIONAL NATURE PARK
A park straddling the Savoie and Haute-Savoie regions, offering a variety of landscapes and a national hunting and wildlife reserve.
A marvel of nature, to preserve! Straddling the Savoie and the Haute-Savoie, the Bauges regional park was created in 1995. Wide valleys, meadows crossed by streams, slopes and wooded plateaus, wetlands... the landscapes are varied. Themed walking trails offer the opportunity to discover the biodiversity of the park, a third of which is located in Haute-Savoie. Its highest peak, the Arcalod (2 217 m), is in Savoie but the Roc des Bœufs (1 774 m) is in Haute-Savoie. This one dominates the communes of Entrevernes, La Chapelle Saint-Maurice and Saint-Eustache. The Chéran river crosses the center of the massif in the direction of Rumilly, along the Bange valley, and the Charbon mountain dominates the Annecy lake. The natural park is the national reserve of hunting and wildlife (26% of the territory in Haute-Savoie) where the chamois, the marmot and the golden eagle are visible... as long as you remain discrete! The park promotes agritourism and local products. Covered with mountain pastures and forests that resound with the clear and sharp sound of the clarines hung on the neck of the dairy cows, the massif is a haven of peace and nature: no traditional chalets, but superb farmhouses, these "baujues" with their vast roofs that overflow in eaves. Here, they produce the "tome des Bauges" (one m for the "Bauges" but two for the "tomme de Savoie"), which represents more than a third of the agricultural activity of the park.
