PEUFEILHOUX CASTLE
Enjoy the life of a castle in Vallon-en-Sully. Spacious rooms decorated with period furniture and garden views.
Built between the 16th and 17th centuries by the Pierrebrune family, in yellow and red coloured sandstone from quarries near La Grave. Around 1675, it passed to Gilbert Jehannot, Lord of Pallières. In 1914, it was owned by Villatte de Peufelioux, Count of Oultremont. Renaissance style facade with double row of mullioned windows, towers, turrets, fireplaces. You will see a dozen furnished rooms, the consecrated chapel with its late 15th century stained glass windows, and the cabinet of curiosities. Pass by the museum of explorers, wonders of the world where are presented fabulous collections of several thousand insects, shells, naturalized animals, and minerals. In free visit, access to the walk of the ramparts with the den of the witch, room of the treasures, dormitory and refectory of the pilgrims of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. The park with its rare species is worth a visit, the French garden, the rose garden and the orchidarium. Admire the fairy washhouse, the butterfly waterfall, the horse pond with its fifteen equestrian statues, huge basins and the well of love. Go in search of the witch's lair, hidden somewhere in the cellars of the great dungeon, where she prepares her poison, right next to a cinema. You will also see her garden and the more adventurous its cemetery with its amazing tombs. Other new features are the African village and the pollution garden, in a playful form of course. Concerts, crime evenings at the castle and a prestigious evening in autumn.
