CASTEL FRANC
Castel Franc in Vichy with a turret with a spiral staircase, whose door is topped by a late Gothic arch.
The Castel Franc, also called the Bailiwick's house, was built on the old city walls in 1482. It was then the home of the bailiff, the lord's representative for administrative and judicial matters. From the 16th century until the beginning of the 20th century, it belonged to the Gravier family. It was also used as the town hall from 1801 to 1822, then as a museum for the Compagnie fermière from 1937 to 1984. The only original element of the bailiwick's house is a turret containing a spiral staircase, whose door is topped by a depressed arch, characteristic of the late Gothic style. This emblematic building of Vichy should welcome in a few years a polycultural center.
