ST. GERARD'S CHURCH
This church is a major stop on the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
The abbey church, founded around 895 by Count Geraud, was enlarged and remodelled many times before being completely destroyed in the 16th century by the Protestants. Its reconstruction continued until the 19th century, when the last two bays and the bell tower were built. The nave, of large size, is in Gothic style. The right side of the transept has some Romanesque remains. As a major stopover on the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, the church was bordered by an abbey, the remains of which were brought to light during recent excavations.
