ST. MARTIN'S PRIORY CHURCH
The history of Ambierle is combined with that of its abbey founded in the Middle Ages by Benedictine monks. Built on a Gallo-Roman site, the abbey of Ambierle, dedicated to Saint Martin, was given to Cluny in 938, while it is in the hands of two lay. Abaissée to the rank of priory in 1101, Prayer have no fewer powers, including the signing of a charter with the inhabitants in 1383, a charter passed by the prior Etienne Tachor. From the th century, the establishment is governed by prayer commendataires and résidents, and prayer or prayer prayer. Antoine de Balzac of Entragues, bishop of Die and Valence, will be the prior of Ambierle between 1435 and 1491, and Jean-Baptiste François of the Rochefoucauld de Magnac will be from 1753 to 1789. The priory of Ambierle will thus depend on the Cluny abbey for more than 850 years. Today, this monastic ensemble remains the priorale chapel (th-century) of the priory, as well as the main body of the houses and the facade east, where the town hall and the houses are located.
