BENEDICTINE PRIORY
It was in the year that a group of Benedictine monks settled in Champdieu, probably following a devout donation. These mortuary monks and their predecessors are going to build the entire priory-church that is currently preserved. Work begins in the th century by the eastern part of the church. The three wings of the monastic buildings are also set up around the cloister in the north. During the fortification of the priory, the main entrance, beside the doorway of the church, is filled because it is a weak point in the defensive system. Therefore, the entrance to the cloister is done only by the entrance of the service located in the lower courtyard (present deadlock of the Priory). At the beginning of the th century, this passage was glorified by a ceiling on casing by the prieur Pierre de la Built during his campaign of beautification the priory. In the courtyard of the cloister, a well is used for the daily life and aux of the monks. Until the th century where two turrets containing stairs are built, the traffic between the different spaces is done exclusively from the outside and overnight, by all the time. On the ground floor, the kitchen is located on the west side, communicating with the kitchens located at the north-west corner. The western wing included on the floor the chamber of the pre-authorized pre-trial with a large hearing room whose chimney is decorated with the coat of stone of Peter de la Built. The floor of the north wing was occupied by the monks'dormitory.
