HAT WORKSHOP-MUSEUM
Hat workshop-museum in Chazelles-sur-Lyon, offering guided tours to discover the world of fashion and hats.
Chazelles-sur-Lyon is famous for its five centuries of prosperity thanks to the hat-making of felt made from the hair of domestic rabbits, wild rabbits and hares. Artisanal production seems to date back to the 16th century before giving way in the 19th century to the mechanization and industrialization of part of the production. It was at the beginning of the 20th century that the Chazelles hat shop reached its peak. This small town has become the most important centre for the manufacture of luxury felt hats in France with brands such as Fléchet, France and Morreton whose reputation even extends beyond the borders. After a historical and technical presentation of hatmaking and the associated trades: milliner, plumbers, gilder... in a renewed museography in order to open a permanent dialogue between the building and the hat, you will have access to the fashion gallery where you can put on your hat and take a souvenir photo! Guided tours are specially adapted for children to help them discover this world of fashion and hats in a fun way, and themed workshops welcome families. A place not to be missed under any circumstances!
