MONTUBURG VOLCANO
With its 62,4 million years, the Montaubourg volcano is one of the oldest volcanic events in Western Europe. The composition of the volcanic rock is original and relatively rare, it is a melilite found in the slave of Mount Vesuvius. From the peak of the volcano (594 m), the view is magnificent with the south the Vallon vallon planted with vines and to the east the Forez Plain which emerges three basaltic bridges, the Butte-le-Châtel, the mount of Uzore and the peak of Montverdun. At the height of the volcano at 594 meters, under the boulanges pines, you will discover the tomb of Bélizar, one of the characters of the Roman novel. You can access it via the Pédestre hiking route from Marcoux or via L'Astrée road, chemin de Bélizar.
