CHÂTEAU DE VIRIEU
This medieval castle was the property of the lords of Pélussin and played a military role. It became a school and a hospital.
It is in the Middle Ages, under the impulse of Mathieu de Boisvin, that the Roman villa of Virius was transformed into a fortified castle. It then became the property of the lords of Pélussin before the last heiress gave the property to a property dealer in 1813. The defensive installations of the building (watchtower, machicolation, watchtower...) gave it a military role until the end of the 17th century. The castle then lost its prestige and was transformed into a school and then a hospital. It is registered as a historical monument since 2001.
