The documentation centre occupies the library premises of the famous archaeologist Joseph Déchelette (1862-1914) and bequeathed to the City of Roanne along with the hotel that houses the museum. It has an exceptional fund of works devoted to archaeology and the history of art. Its collections, which increase steadily by buying and donating, are now rich in about 15 000 volumes and 700 periodicals. The documentation centre is mainly oriented towards a public of researchers in the fields of archaeology and art history, but is open to all, amateurs, students, students, who can consult many of the educational works and archaeological or artistic journals. The main literary and documentary funds represented are: European archaeology (prehistoric, protohistorique and Roman), fine arts, decorative arts (earthenware and porcelain), local archaeology, history and iconography, periodicals (about 200 outstanding titles, archaeology and fine arts) and the personal archives of Joseph Déchelette and several other regional scholarly funds.
