COLLEGIATE CHURCH OF SAINT-BONNET
The Gothic collegiate church of Saint-Bonnet offers an unforgettable tour of its towers, crypt and historic library.
The collegiate tutoie the sky of its two asymmetrical towers and dominates the village of the extent of its Gothic nave. The visit includes the church, crypt and library. The church was served until 1793 by a community of priests, which earned him a college title. In 1361, the chapel of the castle was built in the parish church. In 1399, Guillaume Taillefer, a drapier, made a major legacy for the construction of a new church. Extended in 1450 by a skilful coupling of two spans, the church then displays clochers at the rear of the facade on south side chapels. From an architectural point of view, the collegiate is therefore Gothic, with a dominant ogival style, but the ornamentations accuse the Renaissance. The crypt has seven magnificent frescoes executed by Italian painters between 1420 and 1425. The church, the burial grounds for priests and prominent benefactors, contains twenty vaults. In 1716, the old library of the library was established: today it has 2 250 volumes. For reasons of conservation, the crypt of mummies is no longer visiting, which in the past century has greatly contributed to the church's reputation. These are well preserved skeletons due to the chemical composition of the crypt in the crypt. All these remains are unknown, but the macabre dance they represent made it a tourist attraction and a postcard cliché for decades.
