FÊTE DE LA SAINTE-BARBE
A festival in Saint-Étienne in honor of Saint Barbara, patron saint of miners. Parade, shows, entertainment and fireworks.
Saint Barbe is the boss of the miners and everything that explodes: artificial, firefighters… but it also protects against lightning. In our city of Stéphanese with mineral origins, it is particularly venerated. December 4 was even once an unemployed day paid for minors. Although the mines have completely disappeared from the city's landscape, Sainte-Barbe's festival remains a truly anchored tradition in the city. The statue of Sainte-Barbe, carried by 4 miners, is transported through the streets of the city of town hall to the Well Couriot. Shows and animations are organized throughout the evening. A fireworks closes the festivities.
