CREST OF ROCK CEMETERY
The first modern cemetery in Saint-Etienne, the largest and oldest, considered an open-air sculpture museum.
The Crêt de Roch cemetery is the first modern cemetery of Saint-Etienne, opened in the early 19th century. Here rest all the personalities of the city: mayors, ribbon makers, engineers and industrialists, artists and architects... Being the largest and oldest cemetery in the city, it is truly our Père Lachaise in Saint-Etienne. Remarkable for the quality of its sculptures: angels, groups of sculpted children, mourners, it is a museum of open-air sculptures. The greatest local architects such as Lamaizière also participated in its construction. For all the amateurs of art and symbolism, it is worth the detour.
