SLITTING MILL
Located on the road of the Loire Gorges, at the gates of the Pertuiset, the mill of the fenderie serves both a tourist point and a visiting place. You will find numerous brochures of information on the sites to be discovered in the vicinity (the Pompiers fire museum, Le Corbusier site, walking tours…) and you can explain to you in detail the functionality of this old building. On three levels, the mill still houses the machines, belts and pulleys, pipes and silos used to separate, clean, milling and sieve the grain before turning it into flour. Built in 1910, it was powered by the Ondaine, a tributary of the Loire. Everything was automated, what makes it more a mill than a traditional mill. It also owes its name to the metallurgical activity in the region in the th century. A few steps away, where the flour bags of Mr. Garonnaire, the former owner, were used, the workers were used to working iron. The mill ceased its activity in 1991 and now belongs to the Joint union of the Loire gorges (SMAGL). It is imperative to find out before considering a visit, to avoid finding closed doors!
