Built between 1978 and 1983, this station replaced the Brotteaux station, notably for TGV connections to Paris. It is "connected" to all means of public transport (bus, metro, streetcar and the Rhône Express with a direct link to Saint-Exupéry airport). It is Lyon's top station in terms of passenger numbers, and offers numerous connections. With the TER, it links Grenoble, Saint-Étienne, Annecy, Chambéry, Clermont-Ferrand and Switzerland. Its TGV lines are close to major destinations such as Paris, Marseille and Lille. They also provide direct connections to Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport. Finally, the TGV Rhin-Rhône puts Strasbourg and Germany just a few hours away. Next: Part-Dieu station, designed to accommodate 30,000 passengers a day, compared with over 120,000 at present, is currently undergoing a complete overhaul. By 2021, it will be modern and more functional, in the image of the surrounding district (high towers and Garibaldi works).
