THE RED CROSS
La Croix-Rousse, a hill stretching from the commune of Cuire to the slopes of thearrondissement between the Rhône and Saône rivers.
An emblematic district of Lyon, the Croix-Rousse is a hill that stretches from the boundaries of the commune of Cuire to the slopes of the1st arrondissement between the Rhône and Saône rivers. The history of this district is linked to the silk industry, when in the 19th century Lyon was the leading working-class city in France. At that time, the Croix-Rousse became the hill that worked, as opposed to the Fourvière hill where people prayed. Croix-Rousse became part of Lyon in 1852. Today, the "village" - corresponding to the4th arrondissement - is renowned for its atmosphere and the preservation of its working-class memory thanks to the Musée des Canuts. Numerous traboules, notably from Place des Terreaux to Plateau.
