One of the largest and most beautiful capitals of the Roman Empire.

Lyon is a time machine. From the old Renaissance town on the banks of the Saône, here we are on the heights of Fourvière, at the origins of our Gallo-Roman civilization. Following in the footsteps of a world of which Lyon - Lugdunum, the new name for the museum and Roman theaters - was one of the greatest and most beautiful capitals, this is a magnificent museum, a spiral back in time, and an archaeological site including two major monuments (one of the oldest theaters in Gaul and one of the most luxurious odeons of the Roman Empire, both listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites) that must be visited. An astonishing underground museum that blends seamlessly into the landscape, thanks to Bernard Zehrfuss's audacious architecture. The museum is set into the hillside to present one of France's richest archaeological collections: exceptional mosaics, sculptures, jewelry, ceramics, an enigmatic calendar and the priceless Claudian Table, a bronze transcription of Emperor Claudius' speech to the Roman Senate in support of Gaul's notables. These "living" objects tell the story of the Roman colony of Lugdunum, later Lyon, founded in 43 BC by a certain Lucius Munatius Plancus. Over time, the city grew considerably, with the construction of forums, theaters and temples.

Maginfique musée avec la partie à ciel ouvert (et gratuite) qui vaut vraiment le détour. On se rend compte de la richesse de la période romaine, avec des vestiges impressionnants.

A magical place that allows you to dive in Antiquity. Do not hesitate to sit on the steps of the theatre and admire the beauty of the place. A pleasant promenade which enclose the visit of the Fourvière hill.
Must-see, not to be missed. it is not all that you can find so beautiful gallo-roman remains and for lovers of walk it is a charming place full of history
There are sometimes shows in this ancient grand theatre, unfortunately, I could not attend. The site is well protected and really nice to visit for children.
There is a museum of the grand theatre located a little higher.
