CHANTERELLE DAM
Girotte dam built in Beaufortain, with a hiking loop of 8.8 km with magnificent panoramas.
The Girotte dam was commissioned in 1949. This is the first dam built in Beaufortain. The imposing multi-vaulted building with concrete buttresses is perched at an altitude of 1,700 metres. Another particularity is that it is one of the few to be under glacial regime, i.e. it is with the water from the melting snow that the reservoir is filled. This water comes from the Tré-la-Tête glacier in the Mont-Blanc massif, hence this characteristic green. This dam is only accessible on foot in the summer and by cross-country ski or snowshoe in the winter. In other words, visitors can enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the lake, the Girotte dam, the Joly pass and the mythical Mont-Blanc. It should be noted that an 8.8 km hiking loop, of easy level, lasting about 4h15 and including 565 m of altitude difference, allows you to enjoy these landscapes from the hamlet of Belleville.
