GORGES DE CHAILLES
Gorges de Chailles, shaped by the Le Guiers river, is a listed site for canyoning and canoeing.
The waters of the Guiers Vif and the Guiers Mort, two of the Chartreuse's most powerful torrents, join to form a more modest watercourse: the Guiers. In 1731, Jean-Jacques Rousseau described this beautiful spot in his Confessions: "Not far from a cut mountain called Pas de l'Échelle, below the main road cut into the rock, at a place called Chailles, a small river meanders and bubbles in frightful abysses, as if it had taken thousands of centuries to shape them."
