REPLATON FORT
A fort perched at an altitude of 1,210 meters overlooking the Arc and its valley to defend the entrance to the Fréjus railway tunnel.
Perched at an altitude of 1 210 m on the heights of the Modane station district, the Fort du Replaton can be seen very well from below and overlooks the Arc and its valley. Built at the end of the 19th century to defend the entrance to the Fréjus railway tunnel, within gun range if necessary, since it is located as the crow flies at about 600 metres. It is a Serré de Rivière type fort that is part of the Maginot line of the Alps. The inside of the fort is not open to visitors, but it is interesting to see it from the outside. Moreover, it has been labelled "Heritage of the 20th century" since March 10, 2003. This fort could accommodate 112 men in 1891.
