Museum retracing the history of the town of Moûtiers, presenting a series of objects from Protohistory to the Roman period.

The Museum of History and Archaeology traces the entire history of the city and more broadly of the Tarentaise region, from prehistory to the 19th century. The museum is housed in the former synodal hall on the first floor. The building itself dates from the 17th century. Classified as a Museum of France, it presents a series of objects from Protohistory to Roman times illustrating the past of Darantasia, the ancient name that gave Tarentaise. We go back from 1800 BC to the 6th Century. Then we focus on an interesting scroll from 1171, on documents of the Revolution, on the role of salt works and on the ephemeral school of mines. An introduction to understand the importance of this former archbishopric and this provincial capital located at a crossroads.

Après la visite de la cathédrale voisine un petit tour au musée s'impose.
Visite agréable et bon marché.
