SUR LES TRACES DE LA CRÉMAILLÈRE
In the past, a small train climbed from Aix-les-Bains to the top of Mont Revard. This rack-and-pinion train ran between 1892 and 1937. It has been a long time since the rails were dismantled, but there are still remnants of that time. Will you be able to see them? A 9-kilometre hike between Mouxy and Le Revard now allows you to discover the old engineering structures, bridges and tunnels that will take you to the 1,200-metre lookout point where a breathtaking view of Lake du Bourget and its surroundings awaits you. Careful, it's climbing! You have to be well equipped and provide water, but by taking your time it is within reach of the greatest number. The route is marked out. Will you be able to recognize the former arrival station of the train once you reach the Revard? An easier variant is offered by the tourist office under the title "Histories and legends of the Rack and Mail" (duration 2h30 for a distance of 5 km, and only 200 m of difference in altitude this time). This playful loop allows you to learn a little more about these men and women of yesteryear who "will have to give you information" to find through five desks...
