Between 1806 and 1814, it was one of 33 substations linking Lyon to Turin, a line built at Napoleon's request. It is named after the physicist Claude Chappe, who in 1790 developed the telegraph. Put into service in 1806, its optical mechanism, combined with a specific vocabulary, allows confidential messages to be sent by displaying 92 different signals....
