CHURCH OF ST. THEODULUS
Church located in Montgellafrey, with trompe-l'oeil paintings, statuettes...
The church of Saint Théodule located in Montgellafrey is a monument listed as a Historic Heritage Site since 1994 for its interior decoration. However, the facade is not commonplace. Above the entrance, a niche houses Saint Théodule, patron saint of winegrowers, with a glass in his hand. According to tradition, during his feast day, the Sunday after August 15, the oldest parishioner, named Théodule, filled it with wine. Once you have crossed the threshold, you can see the gilded, coloured and rich decorations in a wealth of details. Trompe-l'oeil paintings, statuettes, but also the only vaulted nave with three bays and the altarpiece of the main altar are remarkable.
