Castle of the XIIth century on a Roman castrum where you can visit the towers, the rooms of the keep, the festive room, the chapel, the cellar.
This 12th century castle in Chautagne is a private estate, but, by appointment, it is possible to visit it with the current owners. Comments on the towers, the cellar, the festive room, the chapel, the rooms of the keep will shed light on this monument built on a Roman castrum. This castle was given to the monks of Hautecombre Abbey in 1160 by Madame de Sillans, who remained its owner until 1789. It has of course been very transformed over time and through the adventures of war, fire... The place is steeped in history, as it has not only benefited from a strategic location on the border between the Duchy of Savoy and France, but has also welcomed many personalities including Ronsard, Saint François de Sales and Queen Marie Christine.
