GORGES DES BOISSIÈRES
Gorges des Boissières carved out by the waters of the Isère, a listed site downstream from the Chevril hydroelectric dam.
The Gorges de Boissières, listed as a protected site since 1938, have been carved out over the ages by the tumultuous waters of the Isère. They take shape downstream of the colossal Chevril hydroelectric dam, opened in 1953, which has completely blocked access to the gorges. Following the itinerary that crosses the dam, you can contemplate the former course of the gorges, located on the right bank of the Isère. This winding road, supported by meticulously-built walls, once offered a passageway to the ancient village of Tignes.
