Saint-Nicolas Orthodox Church, located in Ugine and consecrated in 1926.
Ugine is home to a Russian Orthodox church, an astonishing rarity in France. In the early 20th century, a stream of Russian refugees converged on the town, drawn by the jobs available in the local steelworks. The church was built in 1926 to meet the needs of the growing Orthodox community. Since the death of the last priest in 1980, no replacement has been appointed, plunging the building into irregular liturgical celebrations.
