COL DU TÉLÉGRAPHE
Perched at an altitude of 1,566 metres in the Cercles massif, this pass occupied a strategic military position.
At an altitude of 1,566 meters, Col du Télégraphe takes its name from the fort erected on its summit between 1885 and 1893. It offers a majestic view over the Maurienne Valley and played an essential role as a defensive position, guarding the town of Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne on one side and the Galibier military road on the other. Despite being less well-known than its neighbor - the Col du Galibier - the Col du Télégraphe is nonetheless a picturesque climb, as cyclists who have tackled its slopes can attest.
