REFUGE DE L'ORGÈRE
Refuge perched at an altitude of 1,947 m in the superb Orgère valley.
The Refuge de l'Orgère is perched at an altitude of 1,947 meters in the superb Orgère valley. A good starting point for a tour of the Vanoise glaciers, the refuge is 900 meters above sea level on the GR5 from Modane. The stone building was once used to house workers in the nearby EDF gallery. Ibex can be seen on the flanks of the Aiguille Doran and the Râteau d'Aussois, but there are also marmots. The coniferous forest here is said to be home to trees over 700 years old.
