CATHÉDRALE NOTRE-DAME-DE-GUADELOUPE
Cathedral replacing a chapel dating from 1763 and dedicated to St. Francis, facade with statues of the Virgin and Saints.
The present building replaced a small chapel, dating from 1763, dedicated to St. Francis, erected by the Capuchins after the governor donated the land. Following another donation from individuals, a new church was built in volcanic stone by the Jesuits on a larger plot of land. Its façade is decorated with statues of the Virgin and Saints. In 1850, the parish church became a cathedral. Since 1975, the building has been classified as a historical monument.
