DISTILLERIE RHUM RHUM
One of the oldest distilleries still in operation, with tours to learn how 59° rum is made.
The distillery, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016, is one of the oldest in the world still in operation, and the oldest on the island of Marie-Galante. The history of this place begins with the purchase of the estate by a Madame Poisson in the 18th century. She named the estate after herself and, in 1863, began manufacturing sugar, a flourishing activity at the time. The remains of this former sugar factory can still be seen on the estate. At the end of the 19th century, the estate and sugar factory were bought by Mr. Rameaux, who invested in a still and a column. In homage to the pioneer of fresh cane wine distillation, Reverend Father Labat, he gave his name to the distillery, which is still known today as Père Labat.
Many connoisseurs consider this rum to be one of Guadeloupe's finest. During your visit, you'll learn all the secrets involved in making the famous 59° rum... Tradition takes pride of place, with original machinery and the distinctive smell of sugar cane filling the premises at harvest time. Over the last hundred years, Père Labat's rum has developed and perfected its craft, respecting the know-how and artisanal techniques used to produce the famous elixir that is produced today, with undeniable manufacturing quality. Be warned, however: this rum has a reputation for turning heads quickly; consume with moderation!
