MUSEUM OF COSTUMES AND TRADITIONS
Museum founded to bring to life a part of Afro-Indian and Caribbean civilization through costumes, with or without guided tours.
This museum was created to bring to life, through costumes, a whole part of Afro-Indian and Caribbean civilization and the reality of multi-ethnic heritage. In the royal gallery, you'll find the clothes of sovereigns from various eras (some are period pieces, others made by the owner herself). This is followed by representations of everyday scenes from the pre-Columbian period to the arrival of Christopher Columbus, and from the plantation era to modern times. Costumes are integrated into scenes of everyday life. The Creole hut (Ti Kaz An Mwen), showing the environment of a hut, is bordered by a garden where medicinal plants (Rimed razié) have been planted. There's also Mionnette's kitchen, the courtyard with its traditional games and an audiovisual area. If you're lucky enough to take the tour with Camélia and her husband, the owners, both enthusiastic and passionate teachers, allow up to 3 hours for your visit, as you'll be amazed by their personal experiences and anecdotes. In particular, they'll explain the dress code of a time when you could tell where you were going or where you'd come from by the clothes you were wearing. You'll see the local population in a whole new light. Photos are not permitted. Allow 2 hours for the tour without a guide. A guided tour can be arranged depending on the number of people.
