Located in the heart of a downtown garden, five monumental open books on which 1,480 names are engraved in gilded letters. A tribute to the commune's slaves freed when slavery was abolished in 1848. The cenotaph, inaugurated in 2013, was commissioned by the commune from sculptor Jean Moïsa. The monument bears witness to the archipelago's colonial and slave-owning past, enabling Abymians and, on a larger scale, Guadeloupeans to trace their ancestry. The site regularly hosts ceremonies and events.
