RUSSEL ISLAND
Ilet in the heart of the Grand-Cul-de-Sac-Marin, a haven for seabirds and mangrove flora and fauna.
This islet, in the heart of the Grand Cul-de-Sac marin, was formed after the passage of the cyclone Marilyn, on September 15, 1995. Only a line of groves composed of red mangroves existed before this date. These mangroves contributed to stop fragments of shells, coral, limestone which then formed this new islet. It is today a refuge for the marine birds and a site of discovery of the fauna and the flora of the mangrove. It is the object of approaches by boats which organize visits in the mangrove.
