Aquaculture park, including a ouassous hatchery and a marine farm offering a guided tour to discover aquaculture.
Covering almost 2.5 hectares, this is a great place to take a stroll with family or friends, in a natural environment that is home to several protected bird species: osprey, kingfisher, great egret, snowy egret, crappie, kiosk... You'll appreciate the peace and quiet. It's also the only ouassous hatchery in the entire Caribbean and the only marine farm in Guadeloupe. A guided tour with a biologist (at 11 a.m. on Fridays and Sundays) introduces you to aquaculture, its challenges and the biology of the species raised here. An educational trail is punctuated by explanatory panels on sustainable aquaculture. Here, no drugs, no pollution, we promote responsible and sustainable aquaculture.
On Fridays, you can take part in an event on local spices organized by Madame Vanille. She will be selling her Guadeloupe-grown spices, in particular her rare and exceptional frosted vanilla, as well as local crafts.
It's also possible to catch fish in the 10 ponds on site, and even take your catch home with you. All fish taken out of the water (Caribbean wolffish, red mullet/tilapia and ouassous depending on the catch) must be paid for according to weight and current tariffs. On the same site there's a good table d'hôtes. It's open for lunch in high season, with a chef who makes the most of the farm's fresh produce. On Wednesdays, a snack bar serves homemade breaded Caribbean bass brochettes. Reservations are strongly recommended.
