THE HOUSE OF COCOA
Ecomuseum tracing the origins of chocolate, the history and agricultural cultivation of the cocoa tree, and the species of cocoa trees in the garden.
It was in the heart of this ancient coffee-growing region that the idea of producing cocoa was born, a product from another civilization that was once reserved for the kings of France. You'll discover the origins of chocolate, as well as the agricultural cultivation of cocoa and its history through the centuries. In this botanical garden, home to several species of cocoa tree, you'll see the cocoa pod, the fruit of the cocoa tree, growing right out of the trunk. This eco-museum features an educational trail through a botanical and agricultural field, enabling you to discover the art of cultivating this singular species. The path is punctuated by botanical and historical information on cocoa, with an exhibition on the history of chocolate through the ages, its settlements and artisanal production, its various stages reproduced (from fermentation to drying, roasting, etc.), right through to the manufacture of cocoa paste. You can even see the chocolate being made in the artisanal chocolate factory's laboratory.
And what everyone has been waiting for finally arrives: the tasting of pure cocoa chocolate from the islands! Sensations guaranteed with never-before-seen flavors... The boutique sells 100% cocoa products made by hand, as well as fine chocolates, punches, sweeter bars, cocoa butter and cakes. A delight for lovers of these famous sweet treats. Allow an hour for your visit. Reservations are recommended.
