LIGHTHOUSE OF THE POINT
Lighthouse built in 1953, with views of the Canal des Saintes, Les Saintes and Basse-Terre, and a restaurant nearby.
On February 16, 1947, a Dominican sailing ship , La Rochannia, returning from Montserrat to Dominica, sank at the southern tip of Vieux-Fort. To prevent another tragedy, the lighthouse was built in 1953 to signal boats passing through the canal near the point. You'll have a superb view of the Canal des Saintes, Les Saintes and Basse-Terre. The nearby coastline boasts a promenade with carbets for enjoying the scenery in the shade. A restaurant is located in the immediate vicinity of the lighthouse.
