An ancient motte castrale offering a panoramic view of the Cantal massif, the Carladez.
At an altitude of 825 m, the highest point of the Cantalien Châtaigneraie, this ancient motte castrale, located at the exit of Montsalvy, offers a panoramic view of the Cantal massif, the Carladez, the Aubrac and the Causses. On a clear day, you can see the bell tower of Rodez cathedral. It is thanks to this wide view on the surroundings that it was chosen as a triangulation base by the astronomers Méchain and Delambre when they were appointed by the Convention, during the Revolution, to measure the meridian arc of France between Dunkerque and Collioure.
