One of the most beautiful places on the island, with its unique flora and fauna, including a 250 year old zamana.
Classified as one of the most beautiful places on the island, the Habitation Céron site is distinguished by its exceptional fauna and flora. Located on the edge of Le Prêcheur, the sumptuous park of Habitation Céron, labeled Jardin Remarquable (Remarkable Garden) in 2015, was developed on former farmland. The visit of the garden is a pretext for a nice stroll, which everyone can do at their own pace.
For two centuries, this historic site was dedicated to the production of sugar and the cultivation of cocoa, coffee, and cassava.
In 1897, the sugar factory and the vinegar factory (where molasses was transformed into tafia) were replaced by a distillery. Then the house remained abandoned for a long time before being bought in the 1930s to grow bananas. At the end of the 1980s, the current owner, Laurence Marraud des Grottes, fell under the spell of these centuries-old places and decided to give them a new impulse. She imagined a tour featuring nature and the Céron River that runs through the house, appealing to the visitor's emotions and senses: hearing, with the sound of the water, seeing, with this plant palette of colors, smelling, and touching too…
The owner is also behind the revival of the cocoa industry in Martinique, founder of the Valcaco industry, intended to promote Martinican cocoa. With now more than 2,000 cocoa trees in production, Céron produces its own chocolate bars. Accompanied horseback rides are offered through the cocoa farm.
