In May, Saint-Pierre wakes up to celebrate the eruption of Mount Pelee and the abolition of slavery in great style
Each year, during the month of May, the town of Saint-Pierre commemorates several events that marked its history: the eruption of Mount Pelee on May 8, 1902, of course, during which nearly 30,000 people died, but also the abolition of slavery on May 22, 1848 and the arrival of the first Indians on May 6, 1853, who came to lend a hand in the plantations. A month of commemoration during which exhibitions, shows, conferences, hikes, concerts and a Rasta market follow one another (not to be missed under any circumstances!).
