DOMAINE SCHIEFERKOPF
A great name in the Rhone Valley, Michel Chapoutier is also a lover of Alsatian terroirs and grape varieties. This is why he acquired plots of land near Bernardvillé in 2009, on an exceptional soil of blue schist. On the steep hillsides of Fels and Buhl, which benefit from a south-south-east exposure, the vines are grown organically (Ecocert certification). The estate is also in the process of being converted to biodynamic agriculture. The wines come from plot selections, the harvest is carried out manually and 20 kg boxes are preferred. For the vinification, the estate has opted for long pressings (7 to 8 hours) and indigenous yeasts. Vinification and maturing (12/18 months) are done in wooden tuns, as is the tradition in Alsace. The wines are put on sale 24 months after bottling. The Schieferkopf estate is mainly dedicated to the production of nice, firm and straight Rieslings. The Via Saint-Jacques Riesling, for example, expresses the mark of the schist terroir with a frank acidity. It offers extraordinary sensations of freshness and salinity!
