FORT RAPP-MOLTKE
Fort in the fortification belt built after 1870. An emblematic site preserved by Patrimoine et Histoire de Reichstett.
Fort Rapp-Moltke, built in 1874, is part of Strasbourg's fortified belt, erected after the fall of the city in 1870. One of 11 such structures in Alsace, it houses 220 rooms on a 4.5-hectare site. Equipped with cannons and defensive devices, it could house up to 800 soldiers. Its strategic role has evolved over the years, from ammunition depot to rear base for Maginot Line troops. The Patrimoine et Histoire de Reichstett association is working to preserve the site and open it to the public.
