GORGES DE LA TRUYERE
This tributary of the Lot river takes its source in the Margeride mountains and winds through the southeaster part of the Cantal to reach Aveyron. The communauté de communes of the countries of Saint-Flour and the tourist office continue the appreciation and the development of this nature station: the Truyère Valley is in the process of being classified "Paysage Remarquable" by the State, first step before the labelling "Grand Site de France". But what do these labels imply? First of all, the conservation of landscape and biodiversity, as well as a work on water quality. With the water base of Lanau and Garabit, you can indulge in the pleasures of water with supervised or free activities (canoeing, kayaking, paddle, rowing…), bathing on Mallet beach, lunch on the water or fishing on the dams. The Truyère Valley also offers an ideal discovery axis of built heritage, the Garabit viaduct, built by Gustave Eiffel, is the highlight. Competing in beauty with the iron giant, Château d'Alleuze, on its rocky spur, or the suspended bridge of Tréboul are no less beautiful. From Chaliers to Faverolles, passing through Fridefont, Lanau or Sainte-Marie, picturesque villages, Truyère has not finished to be breathtaking.
