CHÂTEAU DE SAINT-CHAMANT
Medieval castle with rectangular keep, having a collection of tapestries of Flanders and the Royal Manufactures of the March.
Dominating the Bertrande valley, this castle was once the stronghold of Robert de Balsac, advisor to kings Louis XI, Charles VIII and Louis XII. The rectangular, defensive keep contrasts with the rest of the building, which was converted into a pleasure residence in the 18th and 19th centuries. The château houses a sublime collection of tapestries from Flanders and the Manufactures royales de la Marche, as well as original fireplaces, woodwork and painted ceilings. Not to mention its park, both French and English in inspiration.
