The guaguas are small public transport buses, with very affordable prices and a very typical atmosphere, which serve the whole country. Departures are usually from Santo Domingo's Parque Independencia station, or from Parque Enriquillo. Depending on fares and timetables, you may or may not have air-conditioning, which is very useful if you're taking a long journey... Please note that if your luggage takes up a seat, you will be charged for an additional seat. For journeys as close as possible to the daily lives of local residents.
