COLMADO LOS MUCHACHOS
Pedro Almodóvar, on a trip to the Dominican Republic a few years ago, said that colmados were the places that made the biggest impression on him in this country. These little stalls where you buy drinks, food and lots of other things are fundamental to Dominican culture. The colmado Los Muchachos has been an institution since 1941. It's one of our favorites: its old jukebox emits a hellish sound that drenches the whole neighborhood, and you can sip an ice-cold beer in the zinc while watching the happy clientele of regulars dance the salsita. A must-see!
