The museum opened in 1981. It is one of the most important sources of information on the Taino people in the Dominican Republic: one can admire the finds resulting from more than 40 years of collecting and more than 6,000 pieces discovered in the region of La Romana, ritual or usual objects that demonstrate the incredible cultural richness of the Taino people. The museum is part of the Altos de Chavón Cultural Foundation, which has been enriching the cultural panorama of the country for two decades.
