These are the remains of the ancient town, located 10 km south of Azua. Oral tradition has it that the remains of the cacique Enriquillo were buried in the colonial church of Santa María de Azua. El Pueblo Viejo de Azua is still inhabited (around 6,500), and its population continues to grow. But it's in the new Azua that the main activities are concentrated, of course. It's not a very interesting passage, but it could prove to be a good stop-off point on your way to discovering the Dominican Republic.
