The lighthouse is emblematic of the region. This imposing monument was built from cast iron by Robert Hills and Sons, at the request of Gregorio Luperón's provisional government. Lit for the first time on September 9, 1879, it is 24 m high and rises some 50 m above sea level. A spiral staircase leads up to the interior. Visiting it today is of little interest, except for the stunning panorama... At its foot lies the Anfiteatro de Puerto Plata, an open-air theater inaugurated in 2016.
